Effects of pentoxifylline on blood transfusion

چکیده
We congratulate the authors for their study entitled “Preoperative oral pentoxifylline in case of coronary artery bypass grafting with left ventricular dysfunction (ejection fraction equal to/less than 30%),” published in Anatol J Cardiol 2015; 15: 1014-9. This study evaluated the feasibilty of pentoxifylline when patients with low ejection fraction are considered (1). Systemic inflammatory response is one of the basic parameters that affect the postoperative results of coronary bypass surgery. In this context, pentoxifylline may have positive effects through the inhibition of some of the inflammatory cytokines (2–4). However, the study of Mansourian et al. (1) reveals another interesting result, i.e., a statistical decrease of blood transfusion in the pentoxifylline group. None of the similar studies have obtained this result. How do the authors explain that?

Preoperative oral pentoxifylline in case of coronary artery bypass grafting with left ventricular dysfunction (ejection fraction equal to/less than 30%)
OBJECTIVE Most coronary artery bypass grafts are done by applying cardiopulmonary bypass, which usually induces unwanted inflammatory reactions and impairs the outcomes. In order to minimize the perilous response of cardiopulmonary bypass, pentoxifylline was getting used orally. METHODS In a prospective, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial, 178 coronary artery bypass graft candidate...
متن کاملImmunotherapeutic effects of pentoxifylline in type 1 diabetic mice and its role in the response of T-helper lymphocytes
Objective(s):Pentoxifylline is an immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory agent and is used in vascular disorders. It has been shown that pentoxifylline inhibits proinflammatory [d1] cytokines production. The purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effects of pentoxifylline on the treatment of autoimmune diabetes in mice. Materials and Methods: Diabetes was induced by multiple l...
متن کاملPentoxifylline Attenuates Malathion-Induced Oxidative Damage in Rat
Introduction: Toxic effects of pesticides are commonly associated with reactive oxygen species damage and pentoxifylline a phosphodiesterase inhibitor is a drug well known for antioxidant properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the oxidative damages following a subacute exposure to malathion, an organophosphorus insecticide and pentoxifylline's ability to counteract these effect...
متن کاملHaemovigilance
Haemovigilance is defined as a set of surveillance procedures from the collection of blood and its components to the follow–up of recipients, denoted to collect and assess information on unexpected or undesirable effects resulting from the therapeutic use of labile blood products, and to prevent their occurrence or recurrence. In this system the complications of blood transfusion are systematic...
متن کاملThe Modulatory Effects of Pentoxifylline in Biochemical Changes Induced By 17α-Ethinyl Estradiol in the Rat Model
Background: Ethinylestradiol (EE) has induced cholestasis and hepatotoxicity in animal studies through reducing bile acid uptake by hepatocytes and induce of oxidative stress. Pentoxifylline (PTX) is a drug that by inhibition of release or transcription of proinflammatory cytokine cause prevents oxidative stress of liver cell and reduction of damage. We aimed to evaluate the effects of pentoxif...
